The Junior Tournament was an initiative by the school teachers who were members of the club. They saw this as a way to keep the youngsters occupied and also away from crime situations during the first week of the June school holiday. This tournament is not only providing that leisure activity for all the youngsters, but also an opportunity to unearth the talents that are so abundant in our community. This tournament can be seen as another product of Glenville’s junior development culture and our innovative pioneering ability that influences some of our fellow clubs to arrange similar events.
Our Vision
- We will strive to promote the Junior Tournament to the extent that it becomes one of the soccer attractions for Juniors in the Eastern Cape Region
- To develop the youngsters of today into the stars of tomorrow
- We can only achieve this by creating a culture using the five “D” method namely Discipline, Dedication, Determination, Direction and Development
Our Objective
- To foster promote soccer in our community
- To keep youngsters off the streets and away from drugs
- To engage about 1200 youngsters for a full week
- To teach them the advantages of discipline through sport
- To create role models for our community
The Junior Tournament is worthy of praise as it is run by volunteers, with no main sponsor, no financial gain to the club but a huge benefit to the game of football and also the community.
Format of Tournament
The tournament is run over a period of 5 days, starting at the Gelvandale playing fields and culminating in the finals of all age groups on the Friday at the Gelvandale Stadium.
The tournament is for age groups U – 9 up to U – 19 where we have a minimum of ten teams per division. They are divided into two groups and play each other on a round robin basis where the winners of the respective groups meet each other in the final on the Friday.
